I think why Hawthorne wrote young Goodman brown was to show how people you know could be totally different. Another reason why he wrote this was to show how thoughts could be powerful and might lead you to assume. Why I think Stephen king was moved by young good men brown was because it shows people can change without you noticing and how the thought of it could be very powerful. What it say about knowing people is that you really don’t know someone until he/she tells you everything. As for the power of our imagination it tells us our thoughts could make us go insane.
